Calm of Quiet

This carving is one of a series called Answers Within. It is named 'Mārie o te ata noho - Calm of quiet'.

The hole represents looking and going ‘within’ to find all of the answers we desire. Generally, as this pendant hangs around our neck, the hole is located at our heart level indicating that we can look deep into our heart for the answers.

The patterns on the front of this Taonga carry several meanings...

Mārie o te ata noho - (the) Calm of quiet

Great wisdom, power, strength, and inner peace....

Dear friend, Kia Ora.

The patterns on the front of this Taonga carry several meanings. On one level, it is the busyness of our mind and symbolises its unceasing continuum of thoughts. Like an ocean constantly moving, so too is the mind.  The hole in the middle represents the stillness and true nature of our mind.

There is an inlay of Mother of Pearl. This symbolises the seed of our happiness and joy which is being nurtured and protected by the symbols surrounding it, as if in a cradle. These are symbols that representing that which leads us to attaining a higher level of consciousness.

The koru sprouting up from the top of the hole symbolise the new growth and flourishing of our spiritual life.

The motif on the back of the carving represents how all things are connected and that nothing is by chance. If you count carefully, there are nine koru.  In numerology sometimes nine is symbolic of karma, love, and service to humanity. The koru symbol is common in New Zealand and is inspired by the unfurling of the new fern fronds. Meanings associated with this are new growth, new beginnings, and spiritual awakening.

The carving comes with a four-plait cord which features a fully adjustable slip knot system to enable to a perfect fit around any size neck. It also comes with an officially signed certificate of authenticity and has been registered in my database of work.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the carving and over time come to fully understand all the various layers of meaning imbued in this creation. I wish you and your family the deepest peace and happiness.
