Manaia - Ultimate Union

This Bone Carving is a Manaia called 'Ultimate Union' and is symbolic of attaining the joy of union. This can be the union of a loving relationship with someone close to you. Alternatively, it represents the union of the self with ultimate truth. By practising meditation, we can obtain such a union and experience true peace and joy. This carving also represents protection as depicted by the Manaia. The actual protection is achieved through developing a mind of love.

Manaia - Ultimate Union

Double Manaia representing the ultimate union of love.

A Manaia is a symbol of good luck and spiritual protection.

The Manaia, or spiritual guardian, is the profile of a Tiki. This is symbolic of being half in this world and half in the spirit world. Manaia can be adapted with other symbols and stylized to communicate different aspects, or meanings.

This Manaia is called 'Ultimate Union' and is symbolic of attaining the joy of union. This can be the union of a loving relationship with someone close to you. Alternatively, it represents the union of the self with ultimate truth. By practicing meditation, we can obtain such a union and experience true peace and joy. This carving also represents protection as depicted by the Manaia. The actual protection is achieved though developing a mind of love.

Through being enclosed in the protection of the circle, these Manaia merge into one entity. The carved details of the various Koru show us the untapped potential that we contain within our own mind. The koru symbol is common in New Zealand and is inspired by the unfurling of the new fern fronds. Meanings associated with this are new growth, new beginnings and awakening.

The eyes for one of the Manaia are an inlay of buffalo horn. This is symbolic of protection as the horns protect the buffalo from harm and serve to keep open space around it. The other Manaia has eyes of Brass. This is symbolic of strength of will or determination. Also the golden hue of the eye is symbolic of attracting good luck.

This piece comes with an officially signed certificate of authenticity and has been registered in my database of work.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the carving and over time come to fully understand all the various layers of meaning imbued in this creation.

 Hei konā rā (goodbye)
