Marama hou - New moon

Rebirth, Planting of Seeds, New growth, new beginnings, and spiritual awakening.... 

Dear friend, Kia Ora.

This simple Taonga is named Marama hou - new moon.

The new moon indicates the natural cycle of new beginnings. A time to plant seeds.

This is an opportunity to plant and nourish the seeds of our future happiness. The person who does this is truly wise and will reap the harvest of good fortune and inner peace. As such, the new moon is symbolic of our ability to nourish this capacity. This is symbolised by the 'new shoot' arising from the end of the koru. 

As we can not actually see the new moon with our physical eyes, the time of a new moon is symbolic of going deep within our mind. Through training in concentration we are can to venture into and explore the un-seeable. The very nature of our mind. 

The inner journey of discovery leads to a sense of profound joy. Hence, we find what we ultimately wish for. This inner journey is represented by the Koru flowing towards the centre of the koru.

The motif on the back of the carving represents the cradle of the earth. Upon this the seeds of our potential are held and when the conditions of light and moisture come into being then these potentials will flourish. This is symbolic of our potential to attain liberation and the mind of full enlightenment.  

The koru symbol is common in New Zealand and is inspired by the unfurling of the new fern fronds. Meanings associated with this are new growth, new beginnings, and spiritual awakening.

The carving comes with a four-plait cord which features a fully adjustable slip knot system to enable to a perfect fit around any size neck. It also comes with an officially signed certificate of authenticity and has been registered in my database of work.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the carving and over time come to fully understand all the various layers of meaning imbued in this creation. I wish you and your family the deepest peace and happiness.
