Mataora - Life cycle

70.00

Each of us progress through various life cycles. The curl of the bone is like a leaf that is subject to the various seasons of nature.

To all things there is a season. A time for ploughing and preparing the ground, a time for sowing, a time for waiting for the harvest to ripen and a time to harvest the results. Then there is an ending, a time for death and decay. From here, the point of letting go of the old, a new beginning is reborn.

This carving represents these seasons. Each hole in the carving is a symbolic escaping the eternal cycles and awakening to the possibility of enlightenment. Permenant freedom from suffering.

The carving is adorned with Koru. The koru symbol is common in New Zealand and is inspired by the unfurling of the new fern fronds. Meanings associated with this are new growth, new beginnings and awakening.

The Koru are ascending the carving. This represent the rising of our wisdom and growth of inner peace.

The back of the carving is a spiral pattern depicting inner journey. Its simplicity shows the path to inner peace is actually simple.
