Tūramarama - giving light, lighting

Dear friend, Kia Ora

This Taonga is named Tūramarama. Meaning giving light, lighting. The name relates to the translucency of the stone and is symbolic of an emergence from negativity into positivity. Seeing and receiving the blessings of light. Thus awakening our limitless potential for bliss and pure happiness.

The bottom half of the Taonga is Pounamu. It is the beautiful Ngāi Tahu registered Kahurangi stone. This piece is from the very heart of the rock. Therefore, it is particularly hard and contains some wonderful green hues and textures. This symbolises strength of the spiritual warrior. It is sourced from the rivers of Tai Poutini ki te Raki, the northern region of the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

I am a registered Artisan licensed to purchase raw Pounamu through Ngāi Tahu’s authenticity assurance scheme developed under the authority of the Ngāi Tahu tribal council. Authentic New Zealand Pounamu displays a unique traceability code. Only licensed individuals or businesses can use this mark, as only those following specific regulations can purchase the raw stone from Ngāi Tahu. The Ngāi Tahu authenticity code is: P100JQEX. It can be traced here:

Just below this is a thin inlay of copper joining the bone and pounamu. Copper is highly conductive, this is symbolic of being able to channel great and powerful energy into whatever positive activities we do. It depicts a joining of what is above to what is below.

The three Pāua inlays represent the body, speech and mind. When purified, these give rise to deep inner peace.

The carving comes with an officially signed certificate of authenticity and has been registered in my database of work.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the carving and over time come to fully understand all the various layers of meaning imbued in this creation. I wish you and your whanau the deepest peace and happiness.
