Whakawhiti nui - Great crossing

2,390.00

This Carving is named Whakawhiti nui. This name means Great crossing. It is a stilized Waka (canoe) prow.

This is symbolic of making the great crossing of life and navigating our way to the shores of enlightenment.

The small Manaia at the top of the carving is looking forward and out to sea. They are acting as the lookout. Keeping us on the correct path and always aware of the destination.

The main Manaia at the bottom of the carving is looking back at the main body of the waka (if this prow was mounted on the actual waka that is). This is symbolic of looking deep within our heart and mind and attaining the wisdom and strength we need to navigate the journey of our life.

There are 11 supports between the main poles that run up the centre of the Taonga. In numerology 11 is a Master number, the number 11 is the most intuitive of all numbers. As such this indicates the strength of intuitive wisdom and insight flowing from our innermost being to support our journey in this world.

The spirals represent the interconnections between our actions, their effects and the relationships we have with everything in the universe. From our thoughts come the actions we do which forge the direction our life takes. In the same way that the prow of the waka cuts through the water, so to our direction is governed by the coming together of many variable conditions. These are not as random as we may first think.
