Titiro, kite, mōhio - Look, see, know

This Taonga is named Titiro, kite, mōhio. This name means to Look, see, and know. This Taonga contains meanings at different levels.

The overall design represents looking and going within. When we look deep within our mind and ask the right questions, we can eventually come to see and then know the true nature of all phenomena.

The inner circle of the Taonga contains a pāua inlay that represents the innermost and pure essence of our mind. It is being held within a protection circle. There are two koru enveloping the circle, or heart of the Taonga. At one level they symbolise the unfolding of new life. The mind is a continuum and does not cease at the point where our physical body ends. We are spiritual travellers who spend but a short time residing here. Therefore, it symbolises the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. At another level, they symbolise the qualities of love and wisdom. This is our true protection from future sufferings.

The top Pāua inlay symbolises compassion. The bottom inlay symbolises great wisdom. In this way it shows that our love is supported, or held, by great wisdom. We need both wisdom and compassion to attain ultimate happiness.

With the unfolding of great wisdom within our heart we can transform the negativities in our life into strengths. Like turning dung into manure.

The design on the back of the Taonga represents the method for going deep within ourselves to find inner peace and the answers we seek. Human life is mostly about being an inner journey and we need to learn how to awaken our limitless potential. This symbolises attaining this wisdom.
