Whaiaro kaititiro - Personal Witness

295.00

This carving is called Whaiaro kaititiro. This name means personal witness or self inspection. Kaititiro means lookout, spectator, witness, observer, onlooker, viewer, watcher, bystander, eye-witness, inspector, scrutineer, investigator. Whaiaro in this instance means self.

By investigating with deep honesty our own minds, we discover that we are responsible for our own happiness and we are ultimately our own witness. Thus we find a mental freedom to choose how we wish to be and what to become.

The eyes are different colours. I use real Pāua in my carvings so each eye can be very unpredictable! The actual condition in real people is called heterochromia.

In this instance it is symbolic of one eye looking out (in to the world and towards others) while one eye is looking within. Inspecting our self, our conscience, our wisdom, our choices, desires, wishes and mind itself.

I hope you like it. :-) and I hope the meaning isn't too confronting!

I sincerely hope you enjoy the carving and over time come to fully understand all the various layers of meaning imbued in this creation. I wish you and your family the deepest peace and happiness.
