Dear friend, Kia Ora

This taonga is named Huihui Mai which means come together.

It is a combination of bone, pohutukawa wood, two thin lines of brass, capped off by Kōkopu pounamu.

Kōkopu pounamu comes in many colour variations from light to dark browns, creamy whites, light blues, olive greens to yellow even golden. Kōkopu is most recognizable by its distinctive brown spots which are very similar to the native freshwater mountain trout from which it gets its name.

The pounamu symbolises strength. The smooth texture is very comforting therefore it is a wonderful touchstone piece. The stone and wood will benefit from being regularly rubbed with oil to bring out the natural sheen.

The three main elements of this taonga represent the body, soul and spirit. The Koru at the bottom symbolises new life, new beginnings and at another level, the future resurrection body.
